YAMAHA HISTORY
Yamaha is known as being "the first" with ground-breaking technological features on their total Yamaha motorbike line up.
Yamaha has a long racing heritage, where Yamaha bikes have won many competitions in many different areas, for example Yamaha motor bikes have had wins with both road and off road racing. Yamaha has had great success with riders such as Bob Hannah, Heikki Mikkola, Kenny Roberts, Chad Reed and Stefan Merriman.
Yamaha’s head office is at Shingai, it is part of the Yamaha Corporation. After expanding Yamaha Corporation into the world's biggest piano maker, Genichi Kawakami (who was the Yamaha CEO at the time) took Yamaha into the field of motorized vehicles on 1st July 1955. The first Yamaha motor bike was the Yamaha YA-1.
The company's intensive research into metal alloys for use in pianos had given Yamaha
wide knowledge of the making of lightweight, yet sturdy and reliable metal
constructions. This knowledge was easily applied to the making of metal frames and
motor parts for motorcycles. Yamaha Motor is the world's second largest producer of
motorcycles.
