FERRARI HISTORY

The Founder
Enzo Ferrari was born on 18th February 1898 in Modena Italy. After having an
unsuccessful job career he then found work in a small garage as a test driver and
racing driver, thus starting the long journey of the household name of today ‘Ferrari’
Where It All Started
In 1948 Enzo took his first car the Ferrari Tipo 125 F1 onto the race track and taking
third position. The Ferrari team is still going strong today with Feilpe Mass and Kimi
Raikkonen as their current drivers. Ferrari has also had one of the most talented
drivers throughout formula one, the retired Michael Schumacher.
Taking It One Step Further
Enzo was not happy with just being on the race track he wanted to build a vehicle that
the general public can also enjoy. In the 1960’s Ferrari had moved on from building a
very small number of limited edition high performance sports cars, with using the
chassis and engineering straight from the track Ferrari created a real talent for
producing car with such a breath taking experience.
In Memory
Dino 1932 -1956
After the death of Enzo’s son Alfredo Dino Ferrari in 1956, Enzo decided he wanted to
race in the 1.6 litre class of formula two. During several difficulties Enzo had no option
but to ask Fiat to co produce a Ferrari using the design which Dino had produced. This
is when the front-engine, rear-drive Fiat Dino was born using a 2.0 litre engine and still
having the same design as the original version of the Dino V6 – this allowed Enzo to
enter the series.
Enzo 1898-1988
After the death of his son Enzo wore dark glasses as a mark of respect for him. Enzo
died on 14th August 1988 at the age of 90. He had continued to work up until 1971, but
despite stepping down from his position Enzo still had an influence over the firm up
until his death. Enzo’s death had come at the time of the Mclaren Honda combination
this was the only race that Mclaren did not win 1988, and it turned out to be a 1-2
finish for Ferrari. In 2004 to mark the 60th Anniversary and in memory of Enzo, Ferrari
had design and engineered the Ferrari Enzo.

FERRARI MODELS
Ferrari 308 GTB/GTS
This Ferrari is a mid engine sports car which surprisingly has a 3.0 litre, F1 V8 engine.
Ferrari 328
This model has a 3.4 litre quad-cam 4-valve per cylinder V8 engine, and creates a BHP of 300.
Ferrari F355
The Ferrari F355 was manufactured from 1994 – 1999, with a increase in engine size to
3.5 litre and featuring 5- valve per cylinder rather than the 3.4 litre engine in the
predecessor Ferrari 348.
Ferrari 360 – Modena /Spider
Both of these vehicles have a 3.6 litre V8 engine which superbly creates 400 BHP. The
cars go do 0-62 Mph in a fantastic 4.3 seconds.
Ferrari F430
This vehicle has a powerful 4308 litre engine and can achieve 0-62 MPH in just a scary
4 seconds. The Ferrari F430 spider has the same excellence as the F430 but has a
increase in performance with a F1 style gearbox.
Ferrari 512
The Ferrari 512 has a V12 engine would be roughly 5.0 litre. In some cases this is not
always correct since Ferrari would sometimes use the rather odd system of
designating individual cylinder displacement for their V12 engines.
Ferrari 575 The Magnificent.
The Ferrari 575 M Maranello was launched in 2002 until 2006 and has a larger and more powerful 5.7 litre V12 engine, a different weight distribution, refined aerodynamics, fluid-dynamics and an adaptive suspension set-up (the four independent suspensions are also controlled by the gearbox, to minimize pitch throughout the 200-milliseconds
shift time.
Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
The 599 has a 5999 litre V12 engine and can do a spectacular 0-62 MPH in just 3.7
seconds, this vehicle can also reach a top speed of 205MPH.
Ferrari 612 Scaglietti – The Family Car
The ‘Family Car’ if that’s what you can call it. The 612 has a seating arrangement of
2+2 thus meaning the V12 engine has had to be positioned as far back as possible to
allow the weight distribution across the vehicle so it has the same handling you would
expect from such a magnificent vehicle.
Ferrari Daytona
The ‘Daytona’ Ferrari has a twin can 4390 litre V12 engine which has six Webber
carburettors and can produce a BHP of 352. The car can do 0-60 MPH in 5.96 seconds.
